Spring Show. Gone. Viral.

Current events were on the agenda at the most recent meeting of the Councils Board of Directors. The local and national scene, and the recommendations put forth for social distancing and protocols to keep everyone safe were the topic of discussion. The Directors voted unanimously to cancel the Spring Show 2020 at the Albuquerque Garden Center.

Please read the following statement regarding the cancellation from our President, Carol Ellis.

Albuquerque Fiber Arts Council Spring Show – Fiber Play

 April 3-4, 2020

CANCELLED

Out of an abundance of caution and concern for our show visitors and participating artists, the Board of Directors of the Albuquerque Fiber Arts Council is cancelling our upcoming Fiber Arts Show scheduled for April 3-4 at the Albuquerque Garden Center. Today’s news of the spread of the Coronavirus into Socorro and Bernalillo counties in New Mexico has caused us to weigh the value of continuing to support our fiber artists by providing them the opportunity to showcase their particular work and the concern of exposing many people to possible health risks. We are not willing to take any risks with our artists’ or supporters’ health.

In lieu of a “live” show, we are hopeful that we can put together a “Virtual Spring Show” on our website, using the pictures that each of the artists submitted. If we can make this happen, we hope for this to occur on the weekend of the scheduled show or as close to the April 3-4 dates as possible. Consequently, you may continue to enter your works via our website www.abqfiberartscouncil.org through the end of the day on March 15, 2020. And, remember, we do have Fiesta 2021 coming up. Please plan to enter those pieces for that show so we can all see your beautiful work in person.

For those of you who have paid the entry fee required for non-guild members, that fee will be refunded through PayPal. Please be patient as we figure all of this out.

Carol Ellis

President, Albuquerque Fiber Arts Council
