Scholarships

Look for the new launch of AFAC Scholarships at the next Fiber Arts Fiesta coming April 11 – 13, 2024.

The current deadline for submissions is August 31, 2024.

The Albuquerque Fiber Arts Council, Inc. (AFAC) is pleased to provide two types of funding opportunities to fiber artists in New Mexico: (1) Scholarships and (2) Guild Funding. Our mission is to ensure the current and future viability of fiber arts for our participating guilds, fiber artists and the larger community.

Applicants should be residents of New Mexico. Awardees will be expected to show their work at an Albuquerque Fiber Arts Council show. They will also share what they have learned with their peers or by writing an article for the Fiber Arts Newsletter.

Scholarship Applications

Four AFAC scholarships have been established to encourage advanced studies for individuals within the various forms of fiber art. The available scholarships are as follows.

Guild Member

This application for scholarship is only available to active members of an Albuquerque Fiber Arts Council participating fiber art guild. The funds are intended to supplement fees and expenses associated with attending fiber art conferences, seminars, workshops or classes.

New Mexico Resident

This application for scholarship is available to any New Mexico resident pursuing advanced study in fiber art for the following examples: Coursework in any fiber art discipline, fiber art design, fiber art history, fiber art conservation and/or preservation, textile museum practices and/or production.

Heritage

This application for scholarship is available to New Mexico residents with a desire to learn an indigenous or native/traditional fiber art form or technique/discipline of New Mexico. Study may be through a college or school, traditional artisan mentorship, or independent research/study.

Youth

This application for scholarship is only available to New Mexico residents age 18 years and under at the time of the application deadline.  The funds are intended to supplement fees and expenses associated with attending fiber art conferences, seminars, workshops or classes.

Guild Funding Applications

An allotment has been set aside by the AFAC to assist guilds with seed money, matching or supplemental funds for projects. Suggested purposes would be: Classes within Guilds, Guild Outreach, Projects within Guilds, Projects among Multiple Guilds, Group Multi-Discipline Projects, etc. Funding should be used to better cultivate the many forms of fiber arts in New Mexico.
