Fiber Arts Exhibits and Displays

How do you put on a fantastic fiber arts exhibit like the Colors of the Southwest (April 1-2 at Albuquerque Garden Center)?

First, you bring in over 200 fabulous fiber art items from 135 artists:

You find a terrific venue to show them off...

Then you place each object in just the right spot, and

"Rainbow Crow" by K. Sublett; "A Beautiful Surprise" by D. Rogulich; "Calfuray" by B. Lower

"Prickly Pear" by C Rechers; "Antelope Petroglyph" by J. Bartel; "Lunar Reflections Over Lavendar Fields" by V. Gutierrez; "Pathway of Dreams" by S. Morrison

have a great party for the artists!

Next, attract lots of visitors.

And, lastly, take it down, and PLAN FOR THE NEXT SHOW!

Other Exhibits and Displays in 2016

Winter was a great time for fiber arts exhibits and shows.

February saw the Winter Wool Festival, with spinning, dyeing, rug hooking, embroidery, weaving, knitting, and much more. The day was beautiful and sunny, and everyone had a great time!

In March, the Council had a booth at ShamrockFest. There were scheduled demonstrations from many of the guilds. But although the morning was beautiful and warm, the winds and rain spatters came up at noon, so we closed down and cancelled the afternoon demonstrations.

Las Arañas Spinners and Weavers Guild held the annual Spiders' Market sale at the Albuquerque Garden Center, March 18 and 19. There were many beautiful items for sale, and the guild coffers are now pleasingly plump.

Las Arañas Spinners and Weavers Guild was again in the news on July 20 with their outreach program, teaching youth about spinning yarn and weaving. The hands-on instruction was done at Galloping Grace Youth Ranch in Rio Rancho. It looks like fun was had by all!

2nd Annual De-Stash Sale A Success:

They came, they saw and they bought it all!  (Or nearly.) The recent 2nd annual De-Stash Sale sponsored by the Albuquerque Modern Quilt Guild (Abq MQG) was a happy, noisy success, with hundreds of bargain hunters carting away treasures from the 40+ vendor tables crowding the auditorium of Albuquerque’s Jewish Community Center (JCC).
